MCHS Board Members
There are 13 Board Members including 4 officers. We meet formally once a month, and we have sub-committees which meet more frequently.
Our Story. . .
The Morgan County Humane Society was founded in the 1970s by two ladies, a handful of foster homes, and a van. Every Saturday, they held an adoption even in the old K-mart parking lot in Martinsville.
In 1998, a large donation was given to the humane society that allowed us to buy an old church on the outskirts of Martinsville. The church was renovated into offices, a laundry room, and a cattery. Kennels were added to complete our shelter. At that time, we also took over doing animal control for Morgan County.
Over the years, we have added a free-roaming cat room, outdoor kennels, exercise runs, and a puppy/small dog room. We cared for more than 1500 animals in 2016 and the vast majority of those pets have been adopted or transferred to rescues.
In addition to intakes and adoptions, we offer TNR, spay/neuter assistance for community-owned pets, microchipping, and lost and found services for pets. We also do frequent off-site adoption events and fundraisers.
